beer and cheese →
quick tips on pairing beer and cheese. beer and cheese isn’t necessarily “better” than wine and cheese, but it’s definitely a little easier to get right. i’m into the slightly stinky meadow creek grayson and the rich, clothbound beecher’s flagship reserve cheddar right now - both go great with beer!
coming soon to nyc - make your own wine! →
you’ll have to check out the site to make sense of this, but what i gathered from a quick glance is that it is 1. a place to make your own wine and taste as it matures 2. an event space for parties of up to 200 and 3. if you make a barrel you get the murray’s cheese of the month package free for 4 months.

food?
not too much excitement in food-land these days. i feel like i haven’t posted any good cookin’ in a while. also, i haven’t taken any photos while i’ve been dog-sitting this week, but i will describe a delicious steak i made the other night: very delicious and steak-y. i rubbed it down with coarse salt, pepper, and a little crushed red pepper and let it sit...

mcskillet burrito giveaway!!! →
I’m going to be honest and tell you I’ve been lusting after this burrito since it came out - but I’ve resisted until now. All I can say is, if I happen to walk by a McDonald’s during giveaway hours I’m not so sure I’ll be able to turn it down. That burrito-goodness is just a medium or large drink away!
Great news in the cheese world!
Rome, 26 February 2008. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) published today a very clear ruling: only cheeses bearing the protected denomination of origin (PDO) ‘Parmigiano-Reggiano’ can be sold under the denomination ‘Parmesan’. “This judgment is a clear victory for the producers of ‘Parmigiano-Reggiano’ and the entire sector which includes 20 000 operators and represents a turnover of...
Eating bugs? Are we really so bored? →
ny magazine has a little blurb about the growing popularity of “entomophagy” (eating bugs). i’m all for some crazy food and can be a sucker for novelty, but somehow i just don’t think bugs have a place in high end (or low end) restaurants. one place is rimming cocktail glasses with “grasshopper salt”. what does that even mean? i’ve eaten flying termites...

p*ong
Forgot to post the other week after eating at p*ong, the new sweet-savory blending spot in the west village that’s been getting lots of mixed reviews. It was a Thursday night, around 7 or 8 and the place was virtually deserted. The cocktails were interesting and well-made, and the food was pretty great. I had a duck pot pie with pinot noir and chocolate. My friends had a sweet and spicy...
Zen Burger is gross.
I work in Grand Central Station, and sometimes it’s tough to find cheap, fast and delicious lunches in that part of town. The new vegetarian spot Zen Burger (pretty weird website) opened pretty recently and my coworkers were giving it rave reviews. For reasons I’ll never quite understand I have a special place in my heart for fake meat. Maybe it’s a carryover from my days as a...
