Zen Burger is gross.

I work in Grand Central Station, and sometimes it’s tough to find cheap, fast and delicious lunches in that part of town. The new vegetarian spot Zen Burger (pretty weird website) opened pretty recently and my coworkers were giving it rave reviews. For reasons I’ll never quite understand I have a special place in my heart for fake meat. Maybe it’s a carryover from my days as a vegetarian, maybe it’s because Morningstar Farms veggie corn dogs are seriously delicious…. we’ll never know for sure. The point is, I was psyched to try out this tasty, fast, fake burger joint. Sadly, Zen Burger is gross.

All my high hopes were crushed by the extremely crappy tasting food I had there.  The southwestern zen burger was topped with the slimiest, most disgusting onion rings on the planet. The “meat” patty had a rubbery texture, the fries were like McDonald’s fries without the addictive chemicals to make you think they taste good. Disaster. I took big sips of their iced green tea to get through the terrible meal, but somehow it magically combined with all the other flavors to taste even WORSE. Blech. This may go down as one of the worst meals I’ve had since moving to New York - coming in just behind some half-burned/half-raw chicken on a stick (which, coincidentally, also came from right outside Grand Central).
